Frequently Asked Questions

How much time do I have to commit?

  • Different volunteer roles have different levels of commitment. However, the minimum commitment you would be expected to fulfill would be approximately 3-5 hours per month.

How will I be prepared?

  • All new volunteers receive a formal orientation and training session. Depending on the volunteer position this may mean an hour during your first day or ongoing training until you feel comfortable in your new role.

How can I get the most out of my experience?

  • Everyone volunteers for different reasons. Some people volunteer to expand their horizons, or to develop their skills. The best advice is to decide if you want to pursue new interests or use your existing skills in a different environment. There is an opportunity for everyone.

Where are your offices and programs located?

  • Our office and programs are located in central and the west end of Edmonton. Please visit our Contact page for a complete address.

What type of screening process do I need to do?

  • Depending on the volunteer position you apply for, most candidates are given a tour of the program and asked to complete an application form. Those candidates who would like to work at the program will need to further complete a confidentiality agreement, a client non-abuse pledge and a background check. These steps are necessary to ensure every volunteer is screened and prepared for the role they’ve been assigned.
